too much unnecessary data, power usage and time.

Yesterday I was at a master class lecture in ACMI lead by the lead animator of RWBY 'Monty.' He showed us the tricks on how he animated his series using pose libraries, cell shading and all. What appealed to me most was that his scene's where very simple and allowed for a faster workflow. It was also on the same day I tried rendering a short image sequence of my aventador. I was using 10 computers and I only juiced out 10 frames with those machines within only 2 hours. The problem was that my vehicle was too high poly. Infact it was a 400k poly model Including the rendering settings I also set for it. Watching someone else model the same vehicle I saw him use less polys then me and I probably should've used bump mapping for the tire treads instead of using poly's XD

Here are a couple of other renders I did for my vehicle. So the next time I model a vehicle I am going to definitely try and use less poly's and use textures if I have to. I guess I also learnt this from the tree troll too. To add in more definition I just used bump mapping. Maybe I just gotta learn to limit myself, let go and just move onto the next stage. Maybe it'll help me to save time in the future.

Rolex watch rendering

It's my first time rendering an image sequence on maya and I am using a scene I built last year in 2012. I'd personally consider the scene to be satisfactory though there are a few things I'd like to change like making the chrome material less strong.
The thing I love most about computers is that they do all the work for you when rendering. Though one thing that concerns me most is how I spend my time. Am I wasting my time by spending too much time honing my skills in the 3D area? I don't have a job and I don't have my Learners Driver license. I do computer graphics because I now only have 2 years left before I leave Uni and get out there into the big world. I do as much as I can because I love computer graphics and I am on a race against time. But does that justify me not having a job and my learners driver license? I don't even know if I might get a job out in my field of interest but being a christian I can only have faith that God will provide.

First time using mudbox

I have previously finished making a tree troll following Craig Barr's training DVD. It was my first time using mudbox and his training DVD was a good way for me to get myself comfortable with the overall interface with mudbox. Here are a couple of renders of my finished result :)

Some things I loved most about mud box was that I didn't have to go up so many subdivision levels to get a good detailed result. Instead I found I could paint in bump mapping to add in more of a texture and detailed cracks. I also really loved sculpting in and out the vines doing nice long smooth strokes without the fear of making a mistake. In fact throughout the whole progress I wasn't scared of making a mistake cause if anything it was just like scribbling all over a page doing different kinds of strokes on the model to achieve correct visualization of rock, tree and vines. Overall I really enjoyed the software and I personally see myself doing allot more of my own personal projects with it.
